HCMUNRE Student and Faculty Academic Exchange Program in Taiwan

The academic exchange program for lecturers and students from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Resources and Environment (HCMUNRE) took place from November 6 to November 10, 2017, at National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (YunTech), Taiwan. This exchange was organized as part of the “TSAST-HAZMAT FRO Training Workshop”.

The HCMUNRE delegation consisted of three faculty members and three students, and joined fellow participants from the University of Science – Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Hoa Sen University, and Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

Program Highlights

The exchange focused on academic sessions and field visits centered around chemical management regulations, risk identification (especially chemical-related risks), chemical impact assessment, risk estimation, and best practices for prevention and emergency response.

In addition to classroom-based theory sessions, the participants had the opportunity to:

  • Visit the National Fire Training Center, where they engaged in hands-on emergency response training, including the use of protective equipment and practical incident response simulations.

  • Tour the National Yunlin University of Science and Technology to observe its academic and research facilities.

  • Visit and train with a local emergency response unit, and observe the Formosa plant’s emergency response operations center.

  • Join a professional exchange session at the Chemical and Toxic Substances Bureau of Taiwan.

Cultural and Educational Exchange

Beyond academic learning, the program also included cultural exchange activities such as visits to the National Taiwan Museum and the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, allowing participants to gain a deeper understanding of Taiwanese history and culture.

The academic exchange program provided valuable knowledge and practical skills in incident handling and emergency response, particularly in chemical-related scenarios. More importantly, the program successfully fostered a network of connections among students and lecturers from participating Vietnamese universities.

Additionally, the exchange has helped establish a long-term academic collaboration network, paving the way for future joint activities and annual training programs related to this specialized course.
